Abraham¡¯s certificate reads, ¡°A scrub nurse Rija in theatre at Princess Alexandra hospital at Harlow, Essex, has now adapted to the role of ITU nurse, providing essential care to very sick Covid-19 patients. At home, she leaves a 1.5 year old daughter, she continues to go on and strive to provide the best care possible.¡±
Rija is daughter-in-law of Durg based health official Dr D Rajan, who is posted as corona nodal officer in Bastar region.
"Talking to TOI, Rija¡¯s husband Prateek said, ¡°The Black Asian Minority Ethnic Community (BAME) has come under scrutiny for the disproportionate distribution of Covid19 related severity and mortality against their white counterparts. Amidst such challenging times Rija and her colleagues have come forward with her unfailing dedication to care for such ailing patients. The fear for own health and well-being was at stake especially when she was worried about her little girl at home.¡±?
For Rija, duty comes first and that's why she chose this noble profession.
As Florence Nightingale quoted once -How very little can be done under the spirit of fear. This has remained my guiding principle and with my colleagues we are fighting a battle to serve people,¡± Rija told TOI.
