At least half a dozen NGOs and common people haveshown interest in adopting the Pitbull that mauled its 82-year-old female owner to death in Lucknow recently.
The common people have even contacted the Municipal Corporation to adopt the Pitbull dog, reports said.
The deceased was a retired teacher wholived with his gym trainer son and his two pet dogs - a pitbull and a labradorin the Kaiserbagh area of Lucknow. The dog which attacked the woman, namedBrownie, was brought home three years ago, India Today reported.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has shifted the dog to Nagar Nigam¡¯s animal birth control centre and has been kept in observation by four members of the panel to examine his behaviour.
Now, many NGOs and common people areinterested in adopting the dog who inflicted severe wounds on its owner andkilled her.
While Maneka Gandhi has asked theauthorities to give Pitbull back to its owner Amit, the Municipal Corporationhas said that it would take action according to the rules.
Dr Arvind Rao, Joint Director AnimalWelfare, Municipal Corporation said that Maneka Gandhi has asked authorities togive Pitbull to its owner Amit over the phone. ¡°Although the MunicipalCorporation has said that further action will be taken as per the rules.¡±
Half a dozen NGOs have approached the Municipal Corporation to adopt the Pitbull including NGOs from Bangalore, Delhi, Lucknow and other parts of the country.
Apart from this, about six people fromLucknow have shown their interest in adopting Pitbull from the MunicipalCorporation.
According to a Veterinary Officer AbhinavVerma, many NGOs are constantly in contact with the Municipal Corporation toadopt the dog.
He added that several other common peoplefrom Lucknow have contacted to adopt Pitbull but the Municipal Corporation willtake action according to the rules and will then decide on the adoption.
