Until now policemen were busy nabbing perpetrators of cow slaughter. The cow is considered a holy animal in India but who knew that stealing cow dung will soon overshadow all other kinds of theft.
In Birur town of Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka the police department is busy with the curious theft of cow dung worth Rs 1.25 lakh. Times of India reported that the complaint was lodged by the Department of Animal husbandry.
Cow dung is a natural fertiliser that helps produce a ripe crop for the farmers hence, it is extensively used in agricultural and horticulture activities. The case involved theft of almost 35 to 40 tractor loads of cow dung. A supervisor of animal husbandry department has been arrested in connection with this case.

Senior officials of the department had approached the Yagati police that tractors loaded with cow dung had been stored inside the Basur Amritmahal Kaval stock place and were missing from the storage area. According to officials, the manure had been shifted to a private land.
"Based on the complaint which is lodged by the Joint Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, we have registered a theft case. We have arrested a supervisor of the department of animal husbandry in connection with the case," said Birur CPI Sathyarnaya Swamy to TOI.
The landlord on whose land the cow pies were recovered has also been named in the FIR. Cow pats are rich in minerals and all around the world caked and dried dung can also be used to produce fuel.
Meanwhile, several cases in the last few months have emerged in which farmers have locked up?hundreds of stray cows in government schools. Farmers alleged that the cattle had destroyed all their crops and they were virtually awake round the clock to monitor their movements.
