Tamil actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay on Thursday unveiled the flag of his recently formed political party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). Vijay unveiled the flag and anthem of TVK at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai, six months after the actor announced his political entry.
The two-coloured flag has maroon on the top and bottom and yellow in the middle, with a motif of two fighting tuskers on either side of the Vaagai flower.??
The unveiling of the flag and anthem of TVK also coincided with Madras Day, which falls on 22 August.??
Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy among his fans, promised to work for the development of Tamil Nadu.
"I know you all are waiting for our first state conference. Preparations are ongoing, and very soon I will announce it. Before that, I unveiled our party's flag today. I feel very proud... We will work together for the development of Tamil Nadu," Vijay said.??
On the occasion, Vijay and his fans also took a pledge to remove differences in the name of caste, religion, gender, and place of birth, and to create awareness among the people and strive for equal opportunities and equal rights for all.
"We will always appreciate the fighters who fought and sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our country and the countless soldiers who fought tirelessly for the rights of our people from Tamil soil... I will remove differences in the name of caste, religion, gender, and place of birth, create awareness among the people and strive for equal opportunities and equal rights for all. I solemnly affirm that I will uphold the principle of equality for all living beings," the pledge stated.
The 50-year-old, arguably the most popular Tamil actor after Rajinikanth, announced his political entry in February 2024. However, TVK did not contest the General Elections, and Vijay will make his electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

Vijay, who made his film debut in 1984 with Vetri, played a lead role for the first time in Naalaiya Theerpu in 1992 at the age of 18. In a career spanning over three decades, Vijay has acted in close to 70 films.
Ahead of his political debut, Vijay had announced that Thalapathy 69, which is expected to be released in 2025, will be his last film. Vijay¡¯s penultimate movie, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), which is directed by Venkat Prabhu, will be released on 5 September.
