Plasma treatment is proving to save lives for people who are fighting COVID-19. Those who have beaten the disease once are doing their bit to help those who are up against it at the moment. Such an example is 21-year-old Kunal Garna. According to an Indian Express report, he has donated plasma twice and saved 4 lives.?
Back in March, Kunal tested positive for COVID-19. After being shifted to KC General Hospital, Bengaluru, he was cured and discharged. He had gotten the disease just after completing his studies in UK.?
In June, HCG Hospital reached out to him wanting to know if he was willing to donate plasma. He agreed and after doing so on June 15, informed them that he would so many more times if needed.?
¡°Years ago, I had donated platelets, and I¡¯m a regular blood donor. So, I was open to plasma donation too. Initially, my parents were a little scared, but I told them that it could help save lives of critical patients, and they agreed. I have B-positive plasma, and I felt good when I donated it the first time. It is painless and takes just about one hour," he told The New Sunday Express.?
Last month, Dr Natesh BH, a senior cardiologist from Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, was found to have COVID-19. His condition got worse and he was admitted into the ICU at a private hospital on Bannerghatta Road. It was then that Kunal came to the rescue and donated his plasma.?
It proved to be a miracle as the doctor recovered in 3 days.?
¡°I had no clue who my plasma was given to. The doctor had a video-conference with me and thanked me profusely which made me feel good that it saved someone¡¯s life. Even in future, I¡¯m open to more donations, and also, more people cured of Covid should come forward and donate plasma. I was told that my plasma has helped save more than four lives,¡± said Kunal.?
Plasma treatment is proving to me an effective weapon by using the antibodies in the bloodstream. Even as the search for a cure is on, such methods can help those who are not being able to recover properly from the virus, beat the disease.?
Heroes like Kunal who are playing their part in the scheme of things are just what we need right now. ??
