Election season is over and it's time shed the superficial rivalries aimed at decisive electoral gains. No matter how much mud slinging was done during the elections, the contributions of the predecessors in nation building can't be ignored.??
As the country is observing 55th death anniversary of the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, tributes are pouring in from all the corners. Leading from the front, PM Narendra Modi has tweeted about it.
PM Modi, who is visiting his constituency to thank people on his landslide victory, tweeted about India's first Prime Minister and Congress leader, who is respected all over the world for his non-aligned stand in international politics. Nehru is also hailed for building institutions like Indian Institute of Technology and other premier academic institutions in the country.
PM Modi, however, has expressed his critical view on certain policies of Mr Nehru in the past.?
Earlier, Congress President Rahul Gandhi accompanied his mother and UPA chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi to visit Shanitivan to pay homage.
Mr Gandhi also recalled the contributions of his late grandfather.
Among other leaders, Vice President Vankaiah Naidu and Trinamul Congress leader Mamata Banerjee also paid their homage to the freedom fighter and first PM of the country.
Others too joined then in remembering the leader, who once fought alongside the likes of Mahatma Gandhi and Maulana Azad to win India freedom from the British rule.
