Officials at the Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh recently witnessed an aggressive showdown between two of its tigresses.
In a video shared by the Kanha Tiger Reserve on X, the mother tigress can be seen fighting off another female to protect her cubs.
Officials were filming the tigress who was accompanied by her three sub-adult cubs when another big cat approached them.
As the people who were filming the tiger family watched on in shock, the mother tigress stood up to the intruder and fought her off.
In the meantime, the three cubs managed to get out of the way of harm as their mother stood her ground.
"Witnessed the breathtaking moment when a tigress fearlessly intervened to protect her cubs in the face of another female. The raw power of maternal instinct in the heart of nature is truly awe-inspiring!," the caption of the video shared by Kanha Tiger Reserve, read.
KNP which is spread across Balaghat and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh is also one of the oldest national parks of India.
Kanha, which stretches over an area of 940 square km was made a tiger reserve in 1973.
According to the latest available data, Kanha is home to 105 tigers, making it the second-largest population of India's national animal.
Apart from tigers, Kanha has a wide range of wildlife including Panther, Chital, Sambar, Barasingha, Blackbuck, Barking deer, Chousingha, Gaur, Langur, Wild pig, Jackal, Sloth bear, and Wild dog.
