The upper house of Parliament, Rajya Sabha was informed that the retired army man Mohammad Sanaullah failed to furnish evidences to establish that he is an Indian by birth. The retired army soldier was kept at the detention camp in Assam after he failed to furnish evidence before a foreigners tribunal.?
Rajya Sabha was told this by Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy in a written reply to the question, he was quoted to as saying by news agency PTI.
The reply said that the retired soldier failed to furnish evidence to establish his linkage to his parentage in India prior to March 25, 1971. The house was also informed that he also couldn¡¯t prove his identity as an Indian by birth.?
"The foreigners' tribunal observed that none of the documents and their content produced by Md. Sanaullah was proved by the authority concerned to establish the linkage about his citizenship.
"The foreigners' tribunal found that Md. Sanaullah failed to furnish the required evidence under Section 9 of the Foreigners Act, 1946, to establish his linkage to his parentage on Indian soil prior to March 25, 1971, and to submit any proof to establish the fact that he was an Indian citizen by birth," Reddy said.

The minister also told the house that the local police made a reference under the Foreigners Act about Sanaullah¡¯s nationality who is a resident of Kamrup Rural district in Assam.
After receiving the reference, a foreigners tribunal in the district issued a notice to retired army man, examined the documents and witnesses he produced as per the procedure. The tribunal decided to send Sanaullah to detention camp because evidences produced before it couldn¡¯t convince the tribunal.?
Sanaullah was granted bail by Gauhati High Court on June 7, 2019.
