In a first of its kind move in the country, the Kerala government has made a proposal to? bear all the medical expenses of road accident victims for the first two days.
Formulated under the state's 'Trauma Care Scheme' the initiative aims at providing all necessary medical help to accident victims in the initial crucial hours.?
According to the state chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, advanced trauma care facilities would be launched in the government medical colleges district and taluk hospitals and major private medical care institutions, under the initiative.

A dedicated ambulance service, with the latest facilities, which will be coordinated through a call centre will also be launched to transport victims to the hospitals without any delay.?

The government said it will issue a detailed roadmap on the scheme after consulting with insurance companies, who will, in turn reimburse the medical expenses.
Under the scheme, the government said, it want to ensure that private hospitals do not charge any amount from patients and their families in the first two days for treatment.
According to the Kerala government data, on an average 11 people die and 120 sustain grievous to minor injuries in road accidents in the state daily.

Till April, this year there were a total of 12938 road accident cases reported from across Kerala resulting in 1330 deaths and others 14303 suffering injuries.?
Experts say the most crucial part of trauma care treatment providing timely support to accident victims, which will result in reducing the number of deaths.
