Mid-Air Scare For Passengers After Smoke Detected In SpiceJet Delhi-Jabalpur Flight Cabin
A SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh was forced to return to the national capital on Saturday morning after the crew noticed smoke in the cabin during the flight.
The SpiceJet SG-2962 was flying at an altitude of 5000 ft, when the crew noticed smoke in the cabin.
Following this, the captain decided to fly back to safety and return to Delhi.
The passengers were safely disembarked in the national capital.
Videos shot by those onboard showed the cabin filled with smoke and passengers fanning themselves with newspapers and booklets.
While the exact cause of the smoke is yet to be ascertained by the airline, it should be noted that SpiceJet had been in the news recently for several onboard safety incidents.
SpiceJet flight aborted due to technical glitches
On June 25, a SpiceJet flight to Guwahati had to abort its take-off from Patna's Jay Prakash Narayan international airport due to some technical glitches.
"The flight was on the runway and about to take-off when the pilots detected the technical glitches and immediately applied the brakes. The flight was immediately escorted to the bay area and the passengers were de-boarded," Bunty Chaudhary, a former MLA of Bihar who was one of the passengers of the flight said.
Later, another flight was arranged for the passengers and it went to Guwahati.
SpiceJet flight catches fire after bird-hit
Earlier on June 19, another SpiceJet flight bound for Delhi made an emergency landing in Patna airport.
The left engine of the flight carrying 185 passengers, 4 crew members and 2 pilots was damaged after a bird-hit during take-off.
The plane had reached a height of 2,000 feet. The pilot immediately called ATC for the emergency landing.
As the smoke was coming from the left wing, the onlookers also informed the local police which further communicated with ATC and the pilot was informed about the fire in the left engine.
Pilot Monika Khanna immediately switched off the left engine to control the plane and managed to land it safely.
Delhi-Jabalpur flight failed to regain the cabin pressure
On the same day, SpiceJet SG-2962 which was flying from Delhi to Jabalpur was forced to return to the national capital after it failed to regain the cabin pressure differential even after attaining a height of 6,000 ft.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the airline, the cabin pressure differential was unable to be built up as the altitude of the cabin rose from the ground.
"On June 19, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft was operating SG-2962 (Delhi-Jabalpur). During the initial climb, the crew observed cabin pressure differential was not building up along with rising in cabin altitude. The aircraft was levelled off at 6000 ft. Pressurization was not regained," said the spokesperson.
Following the incident, the pilot in command decided to return to the source of the flight, Delhi.
Mid-air turbulence leave 15 passengers injured?
In May, SpiceJet flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur in West Bengal had faced severe air turbulence, resulting in 15 passengers getting injured.
Last month the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had imposed a Rs 10 lakh fine on SpiceJet and barred its 90 pilots after it emerged that the carrier had trained them on faulty simulators.?
