India's Women and Child Development minister Smriti Irani is missing in action at a time when the country is jolted by a horrific gangrape and murder of a Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district.?
She also happens to be a Member of the Parliament from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
Smriti Irani was a prominent face during the protests in Delhi gangrape and murder case back in 2012 when UPA was in power and called for death penalty for the rapists. So far, the minister has chosen to remain close-mouthed on Hathras case where the victim died last morning after the brutal assault.
While she has not said anything on the case yet, Irani has only retweeted UP CM Yogi Adityanath's tweets on the case. Many on social media are also demanding for her resignation accusing her of hypocrisy and only choosing to protest and outrage when in Opposition.
A clip of her protesting during Rohtak rape case has now gone viral on social media, comparing to her silence in the present time.
Earlier in 2018, Smriti Irani was accused of keeping mum on the Unnao gangrape case in which the primary accused was her former BJP colleague Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
The victim has alleged that on June 4, 2017, she was raped by the MLA of Bangarmau in Unnao district at his residence, when she had gone to meet him with a relative, seeking a job.
Congress has also hit out at the ruling party and its ministers over their "silence" in the Hathras gangrape case.?
Hitting out at the BJP over the Hathras gangrape incident, Congress questioned the "silence" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and women leaders of his party and alleged that Uttar Pradesh under the Yogi Adityanath government has become the country''s "crime capital".
