Cabin crew members and pilots often have to face the ire of passengers upset about long delays. But recently, a heartwarming act was highlighted by SpiceJet¡¯s Vice President.?He shared a story about crew members and passengers helping an elderly woman who had soiled the aisle multiple times.
Virendra Malhotra, Vice President of Flight Operations at SpiceJet, recently posted on LinkedIn to commend the commitment of crew members in serving passengers in a recent incident.
The incident occurred on an April 12 flight bound for Jeddah from Kozhikode, where a 72-year-old woman defecated in the aisle multiple times about 40 minutes after take-off.
"The incidents occurred from the 17th to the 21st row, and later from the second-to-last row leading into the lavatory. The lady was accompanied by her family who were unable to offer necessary assistance. The lady stood in the lavatory disoriented, probably unsure of what to do next," Malhotra wrote.
Crew member Akshay then sprang into action.?
He approached two fellow passengers and persuaded them to provide spare clothes and an adult diaper to help the woman. Not only did these passengers offer their assistance, but they also joined Akshay in cleaning up the mess. Once the woman was cleaned up, they escorted her back to her seat.
However, the challenges didn't end there. The floor of the cabin needed to be thoroughly cleaned of the feces that had spread and become stuck to the carpet.?
Additionally, the foul odor in the aft cabin had to be swiftly eliminated to prevent discomfort to other passengers.?
Akshay wasted no time gathering supplies and personally took on the task of cleaning the mess.?
With the assistance of another crew member, Ms. Sreega, Akshay worked diligently using disposable gloves, antiseptic, and sanitiser to clean and sanitise the floor, ensuring a hygienic environment for all passengers.
Malhotra praised Akshay and Sreega for their strong commitment and dedication to serving the passengers.?
Social media echoed the same sentiment.
"I had to read Mr Malhotra's post twice to make sure that this unbelievable story was real! Firstly my sympathies to the poor old lady passenger and then my heartfelt appreciation for the prompt action taken by the two cabin crew members who went out of their way to take care of the situation. SpiceJet should be very proud of them," one user wrote.
Another wrote, "Kudos to the 2 cabin crew, AKshay & Sreega. This is literally going above & beyond."
