SpiceJet?has grounded two of its pilots for reportedly consuming Gujiyas and a beverage in the cockpit while flying the aircraft on Holi.
This incident occurred on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Guwahati on March 8, the day the festival of colours was celebrated nationwide.
In the image that became viral on social media, one of the pilots can be seen holding a Gujiya, a special Holi sweet, and a beverage in a paper cup balanced on the centre console. One more piece of the confection could also be seen placed near the cup.
In response, a SpiceJet spokesperson revealed to the media that both pilots had been removed from the roster for a probe into their actions to ascertain whether it risked the flight.?
"Both pilots have been off-rostered pending an inquiry. SpiceJet has a strict policy for consumption of food inside the cockpit which is adhered by all flight crew. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken upon completion of the investigation," a SpiceJet spokesperson said.
People on Twitter seemed concerned about the issue and termed it as 'appalling' and 'unprofessional behaviour'. Many of them tagged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as they shared the image of Gujiyas in the cockpit. They?stressed how the engine might have ceased to work had even a little liquid spilled there.
