Unscheduled and frequent power cuts over the past week in Kashmir are increasing the problems of residents.
While Kashmiris are used to frequent power cuts, they said that the power scenario was much better during past years during the fasting month of Ramzan.
There were assurances from the local authorities that there won¡¯t be power cuts during the time of sehri and iftar, which have fallen flat.
¡°Sehri and Iftaar are the only times when the power outage strikes and that is the time we need electricity the most,¡± Zaid Bin Shabir, a local journalist, was quoted as saying by Kashmir Observer.
The locals said that during sehri, unavailability of power plunges streets into darkness. ¡°We face problems to reach masjids to offer prayers in pitch darkness,¡± they said.
Residents and hoteliers of tourist areas including Boulevard, Dalgate and Buchwara also complained of unscheduled power cuts. ¡°Unscheduled power cuts amid peak tourist season are causing immense problems to tourists,¡± Aftab Yaseen of Buchwara, told Greater Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference expressed dismay over the frequent power cuts across Kashmir especially during Sehri and Iftar time, saying the assurances of the administration with regards to ensuring uninterrupted power supply have fallen flat.
Provincial president, Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani in a statement said that consumers across Kashmir are facing unscheduled, regular power cuts during the holy month of Ramzaan, particularly at Sehri and Iftar time making it difficult and unmanageable to scores of people.
Taking a strong note of the unscheduled power cuts in Srinagar and many parts of the Valley, PDP leader and state secretary youth Arif Laigaroo has castigated the administration for not providing uninterrupted power supply in the holy month of Ramadhan.
Laigroo said people, in general, complain that at the time of Sehri and Iftaar, on most of the days, there is no electricity, and as such, they face huge problems in carrying out their religious obligations.
