A daring case of kidnapping for ransom was solved by the out-of-the-box thinking of the Bengaluru police.
Rabeez Arafat, a resident of Shivaramaiah Layout, HBR Layout in Bengaluru went missing on March 25 after he left home to a nearby fruits shop to buy some juice.
While he was on his way, Arafat came across a group of men, on a motorbike and car, who sought his help with an address.
As Arafat was helping them with the address, the men dragged the 22-year-old inside their car and spade away.
Arafat's father who runs two colleges in Bengaluru got to know that his son was missing after he received a call from the kidnappers who demanded Rs 2 crore for his release.
After the police were alerted the cops split into several teams and in a matter of hours identified the location of the abductors based on CCTV visual and phone GPS.
Arafat said that since his captors had blindfolded him, he was not sure where he was being taken until they stopped the vehicle and locked him inside a small house in a village.
The kidnappers who were using Arafat phone to speak to his family, in the meantime, began threatening to kill him if the ransom was not paid on time or if the incident was informed to the police.
As per the instruction of the police, the family agreed to pay the ransom.
By this time the police had zeroed in on the location and seven of them moved to the village hiding in the trolley of a truck, armed and wearing plain clothes.
Arafat who panicked had managed to convince his captors to let him sit outside the room to get some fresh air.
As the unsuspecting kidnappers waited outside a slow-moving truck approached their house and from that jumped out seven armed cops who without much effort detained the four men.
The hostage drama ended in around seven hours and Arafat was finally freed. Just like in a movie.?
