¡°Bursting firecrackers on Diwali could land you in jail. Never imagined such a day would come. Am I in my country, Bharat? Jai Sri Ram. Jai Hind," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Devender Arya, had tweeted in Hindi. He later deleted it. Delhi Police, however, distanced itself from it and said that it was officer¡¯s personal opinion and he had twitted it from the personal handle. DCP Arya, however, came out with a clarification later. He in another tweet said: "It was a momentary inadvertent slip on my part. It does not reflect any opinion/view. I sincerely apologise for this inadvertent slip."
The SC had banned the bursting of the crackers on Diwali and only a two-hour window was given for the bursting of crackers. But people violated the ban and busted the crackers which led to the arrest of many.? The police too came out with a statement that it had nothing to do with the tweet done by DCP.?
"The said tweet got posted from the personal handle of Sh. Devender Arya. It was immediately deleted by the officer. Delhi Police has nothing to do with that tweet. We are committed to ensuring that directions of Hon'ble Supreme Court on this issue are strictly complied with," it said.
