#ITCounts is an Indiatimes initiative to move beyond the noise and the name-calling and focus on issues that really matter to our generation. We aim to be more about migration, pollution, LGBTQIA rights, women's issues, and healthcare than about Pakistan, political posturing and trolling.
It¡¯s an answer to the one question a lot of people keep asking us - ¡®Should a trending website even be covering elections?¡¯?
The answer for us at Indiatimes is an astounding yes. The country, the voters and in many cases even the people who report on them are polarised and made to choose one side or the other. But is there really another side to wanting ¡®Equal Rights For Women?¡¯ ¡®Clean Air To Breathe;¡¯ ¡®The right to migrate to all parts of India safely;¡¯ ¡®Safety for women and the LGBTQIA+ community;¡¯ ¡®Evolving a better education system;¡¯ and so, so many more??
Is there really another side to issues that matter. Issues which are packed away in election speeches to be pulled out only in opinion columns? We don¡¯t think so. Which is why for the entire election season, we¡¯re going to throw ourselves into producing content which we feel should be the core of all election coverage.?
Sure, we¡¯ll make mistakes along the way, fail, struggle, but the point is we¡¯re going to get there together. Enough of political debates which settle nothing, let¡¯s have a chat about the brass taxes, let¡¯s talk about whether we¡¯ll have jobs, clean air to breathe and a country where love is free.?
The only opinion we want to front is the one that has your opinions at the centre of it. It¡¯s not right, it¡¯s not left and in many cases it might not even be centre. But it¡¯s ours. It¡¯s a clear mandate to be selfish and put people like you and me at the centre of this coverage, because that¡¯s what the country needs - it needs us to be selfish about what we need, someone has to be.
