Bengaluru police have booked a woman who was arrested after she shouted Pakistan Zindabad during her speech at an anti-CAA-NRC protest in the city under Section 124A (Sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
The woman identified as Amulya Leona said to be in her early 20s was one of the speakers at the event organized under the banner of "Save Constitution" which was also attended by Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul- Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Amulya who took to the stage surprised everyone when she began chanting Pakistan Zindabad several times before a few people including Owaisi intervened and stopped her.
"What are you saying?. No, you cannot say that", a frantic Owaisi is heard asking Amulya.
The woman they chanted Hindustan Zindabad and as the organizers took the mic away from her said something like "The difference between Hindustan Zindabad and Pakistan Zindabad".
Amulya who was forced away from the stage was arrested last evening and was booked under sedition. "We have filed a suo moto case against her under sections 124A(sedition), 153A and B (promoting enmity between different groups) and imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration)," senior police officer B Ramesh said.
Owaisi who later took to the stage condemned the incident and said "What was said here now is wrong. Me or my party has nothing to do with this. As long as I am alive, I will only chant Hindustan Zindabad. I have nothing to do with Pakistan and will have nothing in the future," he said.
Owaisi also criticized the organizers for letting such a thing happen.
"I¡¯m disappointed that the organizers allowed such statements to be made at an event meant for the unity of our nation. If I knew such a thing will happen, there was no question of me even attending such an event. We are for India and we, in no way, support our enemy nation Pakistan,¡± he said.
Following the controversy, Amulya's family also distanced themselves from her comments.
"What she said is wrong. She was joined by some Muslims and wasn't listening to me!" her father told ANI.
This is not the first time, Amulya has said Pakistan Zindabad.
In a Facebook post last week, written in Kannada, Amulya had said "Hindustan Zindabad!?
Pakistan Zindabad!?
Bangladesh Zindabad!?
Sri Lanka Zindabad!?
Nepal Zindabad!?
Afghanistan Zindabad!?
China Zindabad!?
Bhutan Zindabad!
And said that love for one's own country and respect for other nations.
