Aakash Chopra has commended Nitish Kumar Reddy for his pivotal innings in SunRisers Hyderabad's (SRH) thrilling victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2024 clash.
Reddy's blistering knock of 64 runs off 37 deliveries propelled SRH to set a challenging 183-run target for PBKS in Mullanpur on Tuesday, April 9. Despite a tight contest, Pat Cummins and his teammates managed to restrict PBKS to 180/6, securing a narrow two-run win.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra hailed Reddy's contribution, stating, "The Hyderabad batting stumbled at the start. It seemed at one stage that even 150 might be difficult. However, Nitish Reddy. He was a net bowler with Chennai till last year and hit a six off the last ball to win the last match against Chennai and here also he scored runs and decent runs."
"The kid bats well. He has the might. In the first 15 years of this tournament, there were very few Indian finishers. That's why whoever can finish, his price at the auction goes through the roof. However, now you can see players like Rahul Tewatia, Shivam Dube, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma. You can keep Nitish Kumar Reddy also in the same list," added the former India opener.
Hailing from Vizag, Nitish Kumar Reddy has swiftly risen through the cricketing ranks, showcasing remarkable skills that have caught the attention of enthusiasts worldwide.
Inspired initially by Virat Kohli, Reddy's breakthrough came during the 2017-18 season when he dominated the Vijay Merchant Trophy, accumulating an impressive 1,237 runs.
Despite encountering early challenges, including transitioning from a top-order batsman to a seam-bowling all-rounder, Nitish's perseverance and hard work have paid dividends.
With notable performances in domestic cricket and a standout IPL debut for SunRisers Hyderabad, which included a crucial cameo with the bat and vital wickets, Nitish is poised to leave his mark on the national stage, fueled by his aspiration to emulate his idol, Hardik Pandya.
Supported by his father's steadfast commitment and sacrifices, Nitish is on track to fulfill his dreams and carve out a promising career in cricket.
