Thursday was the best day for India at the ongoing Paris Olympics as the country added two medals - a silver in javelin throw and a bronze in men's hockey. The Indian Hockey team, led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, successfully defended their bronze from the Tokyo 2020 games on Thursday, defeating Spain 2-1.
The back-to-back Olympic bronze medals by Team India reminded many fans of the glory days of Indian Hockey when they were the undisputed kings of the game.
From the heartbreak of missing out on a chance to win gold a couple of days ago, the nation of 1.4 billion erupted in joy as Team India bagged the bronze medal on Thursday.
To celebrate the win, Hockey India announced a financial reward of Rs 15 lakh for every player in the team, while the support staff members will be awarded Rs 7.5 lakh each.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for all the players hailing from the state who were part of India's bronze medal-winning team.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi announced a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh each for players of the hockey team and Rs 10 lakh each for the support staff. In addition to this, Amit Rohidas, a member of the team who hails from Odisha, will get another special cash award of Rs 4 crores.
On Thursday, the Indian men's hockey team came from behind to defeat Spain 2-1 to win the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the team, saying they 'bounced back like true champions.'
¡°Bouncing back like true champions! I¡¯m sure it wasn¡¯t easy to swallow the semifinal loss, but our team came back strong and clinched the bronze in men¡¯s hockey once again at this Olympics. Congratulations on this well-deserved victory, Team India,¡± Tendulkar said.

Congratulations,¡± Olympic gold-medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra said.
¡°After all the heartbreaks of the past few days, I think I just broke the world record for holding one¡¯s breath¡ I exhaled only in the last second before the whistle¡ So thank you #TeamIndia for the life support system,¡± Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra said.
