Jasprit Bumrah will forever be a legend in Indian cricket, known as the player you can always count on in the most critical moments. Whenever India is in need of a crucial wicket, especially in those nail-biting final overs, Bumrah consistently delivers. The T20 World Cup 2024 was no exception to this pattern of excellence, as Bumrah once again showcased his trademark poise and skill by securing a game-changing wicket in true Bumrah fashion.
Renowned journalist Deepal Trivedi, who was once Jasprit Bumrah's neighbour, recently shared a touching post on X that captures the essence of his incredible journey.?
Trivedi writes, "My knowledge of cricket is almost zero. But this post is about my hero."
She reminisces about a December day in 1993, when her salary was less than Rs 800 a month. She was just 22 or 23 years old and had been persuaded by her friend, who was also her next-door neighbor, to take a day off work because she was expecting a baby. Trivedi spent most of that December day at a hospital in Paldi, Ahmedabad. "My friend Daljit's husband Jasbir had stepped out for a few minutes when the nurse called our name and then placed a tiny baby in my trembling hands," she recalls.
And that baby was Jasprit Bumrah. "That was my first time holding a newborn," she continues. "All I remember was the baby was lanky. He was trying to smile but he really didn't."
Trivedi reflects on the hardships that followed, especially after Bumrah's father passed away suddenly. "Sadly, my friend's husband passed away soon. Life changed. We were hopeless. That whole month, I handled the kids. Read to them. The boy was never interested and start playing with his cheap stupid plastic ball. I also? sometimes ate? their bisciuts because I was starving while babysitting. We starved, we struggled, we cried, we fought."
She goes on to describe a poignant memory: "I remember once I got some increment and I went to Westside, the most posh shop I knew then, to buy a kurta. Jasprit was there, must be 8 years old with his mom, hiding behind her dupatta. He wanted a windcheater. That's my only gift to him."
Trivedi concludes with a powerful tribute to Bumrah's success: "Unlike his sister, Jasprit was a shy, reticent child. And now, he is a cricketing legend. Last night, he played a crucial role in winning the Cricket World Cup for us. Every Indian should take pride in his achievements and learn from his humility. His journey from those humble beginnings to becoming a champion is truly inspiring. His name is Jasprit Bumrah."
