IPL 2024:?MS Dhoni once again showcased his power-hitting prowess, taking on Hardik Pandya's bowling in the final over.
Dhoni, who underwent knee surgery last year, is no longer at his fittest best for obvious reasons but that didn¡¯t stop him from smashing MI skipper Hardik Pandya for three successive sixes in the final over of CSK¡¯s innings on Sunday evening.
His late onslaught propelled Chennai Super Kings to a formidable total of 206 for 4, a target they defended successfully against Mumbai Indians, restricting them to 186 for 6 in 20 overs.
Several videos have surfaced on social media since CSK¡¯s 20-run win in which Dhoni has been spotted walking with discomfort and an icepack tied around his left foot, below the knee. And the recent has won a million hearts as it refreshes the memories of Dhoni-Raina bonding.
Later, Raina offered a glimpse into the legendary cricketer's thoughts at that moment. During a broadcast, Raina disclosed that the former CSK captain praised his Bhojpuri commentary.
"MS Dhoni was discussing Bhojpuri commentary. He said, 'Bahut hi gajabe commentary kar rahe Bhojpuriya mein (You guys have been doing fantastic commentary in Bhojpuri).' I told him Haryanavi is also nice,¡± the cricketer-turned-commentator said on JioCinema.?
Known as 'Thala' and 'Chinna Thala' by CSK fans, Dhoni and Raina have shared many memorable moments on and off the field during their time together with the IPL franchise.
While Raina hung his boots in 2022, Dhoni has continued his remarkable journey in the lucrative T20 league. After guiding CSK to a record-equalling fifth title in IPL 2023, Dhoni relinquished captaincy ahead of IPL 2024, passing the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad and assuming a more limited role in the team.
Following the match, CSK bowling coach Eric Simons provided insight into Dhoni's fitness, acknowledging that the veteran cricketer may be dealing with minor injuries.
"I am sure there are some niggles as we know that ¨C as we go in life, we get our niggles. But when he gets to the middle, he ran those two quite quick tonight and he just gets on with it. He has the ability to ignore what it is and do what needs to be done. To me, that¡¯s who he is and that¡¯s the way he goes about it. The public is more concerned about his injuries than he is," he said.
