Does extraterrestrial life exist and if yes, in what form and can we communicate with them? These are some questions humans have tried to answer for thousands of years. But are we any closer to solving this mystery once and for all? Some scientists believe that we are and human-alien communication could happen within a decade.
80-year-old astronomer Seth Shostak?is of the opinion?that the?human race will hear from intelligent aliens by 2036.
Shostak, who has been working with the SETI project (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) for almost a quarter of a century argues that with the improvements in telescope technology and computing hardware, it is just a matter of time before we establish communication with some sort of extraterrestrial life.
"The trend of improving hardware - mostly computers -- has proceeded unabated. I'm still betting on a signal by 2036," Shostak said?an?a Reddit AMA.

He argues that recent research has determined there could be billions of Earth-like worlds in the universe, suggesting it's highly unlikely that Earth is the only one with life.
'That may be the strongest argument for life in space. Because, if there isn't any, there's something?really?exceptional about what's happened here on Earth. While that's not ruled out by the data, it does seem a little self-centered,'?Shostak said.
There are others who believe?that humans could hear from aliens as early as 2029.?
This is based on the assumption that signals sent by NASA's Deep Space Network (DSN) to the Pioneer 10 satellite that launched in 1972 might have already reached aliens.

Researchers at the University of California (UC) believe that if there is life on a planet around a?dwarf star 27 light years from Earth, and they have received our signal, we could hear back from them by 2029.
