On the 50th anniversary of this iconic character, a huge revelation surprised fans: "Hello Kitty isn't a cat," Jill Koch, senior vice president of marketing and brand management at Sanrio, told Today.?
"She's actually a little girl,"?Koch adds, "Born and raised in the suburbs of London, she has mom and dad, and twin sister Mimmy - who's also her best friend."

But fans of the character aren't convinced.
In the comments on a post sharing the news, people reacted with disbelief.?
