Sheryl Blanksby, a mother of two who lives in Australia, recently shared this photo on her Instagram.?
The photo shows her sons lying side-by-side on the sofa where her three-year-old boy, William is gently cuddling his four-month-old brother, Thomas.?
However, there's more to the story. Sheryl writes,
#Throwback to when we were on our holiday. I was getting ready in the bathroom and husband was in the kitchen. The kids were quiet, especially Mr preschooler. You know the rules about when kids are quiet. I tiptoed to the lounge with my camera ready to catch anything they are doing. I was expecting my baby to be covered in Nutella or something but instead I saw this. My preschooler is telling his baby brother "Kuya (big brother) is here. Everything is ok".
Thomas is dying from cancer. The little boy has a malignant rhabdoid tumour?which is a rare and an aggressive form of cancer. It commonly occurs in infants and toddlers and around 25 cases are diagnosed in the US every year.?
And rhabdoid tumour is one of those kind that first appear in the kidneys but slowly spread to others parts of the body. The survival rate is below 30 percent and there has never been any record of a successful treatment in the world.?
That's why Sheryl and her husband, Jon, are trying their best to capture Thomas's every moment and sharing most of them on social media.?
The couple has told William that his little brother has an "ouchie" that the doctors are trying to fix. But he does, in his own way, know that Thomas may not get better.
This is so heartbreaking. May God give this beautiful family the longest time to stay together.?
