In the ongoing spat between Elon Musk and Microsoft, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO escalated the argument on Tuesday by urging Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella to allow users to set up a new Windows PC without the mandatory creation of a Microsoft account.
Responding to Nadella's post about Microsoft's partnership with Mistral AI in generative artificial intelligence, Musk requested, "Satya, I don¡¯t mean to be a pest, but please allow people setting up a new Windows PC to skip creating a Microsoft account."
Musk highlighted the limitation that the option to skip creating an account disappears if the computer is connected to WiFi. He further mentioned that even if one wishes to sign up, the system doesn't allow the use of a work email address, creating an inconvenience for those with work-specific email accounts.
As of now, Nadella has not responded to Musk's posts. The disagreement initially surfaced when Musk shared his difficulties in setting up his new Windows PC over the weekend, expressing frustration at the mandatory creation of a Microsoft account during the setup process.
The back-and-forth underscores the importance of user experience and flexibility in the setup processes for tech products, especially when it comes to account creation requirements. The resolution or continuation of this exchange could impact the user onboarding experience for Windows PCs in the future.
