New Zealand is making no exceptions when it comes to enforcing the strict coronavirus prevention measures, even when it is Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern herself. She was not allowed into a cafe due her own rules of social distancing.?
Ardern was with her fiance Clarke Gayford and some friends who had to be turned away from a Wellington cafe because the customer limit had been reached, as per a report in AFP.?
"I have to take responsibility for this, I didn't get organised and book anywhere," Gayford tweeted.?
As New Zealand comes out of the lockdown, cafes reopened, but there are rules they need to follow regarding distance and seating of customers.?
A diner who witnessed it told Stuff media that a cafe employee "had to awkwardly say it was full and there were no tables, and they left."?
Thankfully for her and her party, other diners left in a bit, and the staff was able to call her back.?
"Was very nice of them to chase us down the street when a spot freed up. A+ service," Gayford tweeted.?
But this is a good precedent. No special favours to the PM indicates that New Zealand is serious when it comes to social distancing. The country has done all the right things so far to keep COVID-19 under tabs so far and is not letting up in its efforts to eradicate it from the nation completely.??
