In the last two weeks, this is the second robot that has met its end in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the site where a major nuclear accident was caused due to a devasting earthquake and a subsequent tsunami.
The robot was tasked to investigate the pedestal where the molten nuclear fuel was suspected to have fallen. But about 10-feet away from the target, the robot¡¯s tank got stuck and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), which operates the plant, decided to cut the robot¡¯s cable while abandoning it inside the reactor.

The two-feet-tall Scorpion shaped robot was equipped with a camera on its tail that could whip up and look around. It also had temperature and radiation sensors. According to various reports, that was the seventh robot to have fallen in pursuit of investigating the highly radioactive nuclear matter.?
Last week too, a scouting robot was sent to clear the way for the scorpion robot, but it was pulled back because the camera installed on it got fried due to record high level of radiation estimated around 650 sievert per hour. ?
