The war in Ukraine has entered its sixth day and despite the first round of negotiations, both sides have not come to an agreement on ending it.
In the meantime, fatalities on both sides are mounting and it is the people who are paying the price of the war.
The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Nations has shared what he claims were the final text messages between a Russian soldier and his mother before the fighter was killed in Ukraine.
Sergiy Kyslytsya shared and read screenshots of texts during an emergency special session of the UN General Assembly.?
After the mother asked for her son's whereabouts, he revealed to her that he was not in training but taking part in the invasion of Ukraine and was "afraid."
From the chat, it appears that the mom was unaware of the fact that her son was fighting in Ukraine.
The soldier told his mom that he was no longer in Crimea doing training exercises.?
"What are you talking about? What happened?" the mother asked.
"Mama, I'm in Ukraine," the soldier wrote back.
When his mother asks if she can send him a parcel, he says ¡°the only thing I want now is to hang myself.¡± He goes on to explain that he is in Ukraine, where there is a ¡°real war.¡±
¡°I¡¯m scared, we¡¯re hitting everyone, even civilians,¡± he wrote. ¡°We had been told that people would welcome us here but they jump under our vehicles, not letting us pass. They call us fascists. Mom, it¡¯s so hard.¡±
Kyslytsya claimed that the final message was sent several "moments" before the soldier was killed.
The unverified message comes at a time when Ukraine has claimed that it has managed to inflict heavy damages on the invading Russian troops.
There are also reports that many of the Russian soldiers who are currently in Ukraine were not even told that they were going to invade the neighboring country but were being sent on a training exercise.
It is also unlikely that the loved ones of the Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine will get to see them one last time as there are reports that Moscow is deploying mobile crematoriums along with its troops to hide evidence of their fatalities.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday claimed that more than 4,500 Russian soldiers had already lost their lives.
