UAE is slashing its working week to four-and-a-half days. Also, the weekend is being moved from Fridays and Saturdays to Saturdays and Sundays, according to officials as per AFP.?
"The UAE is the first nation in the world to introduce a national working week shorter than the global five-day week," said official news agency WAM in its report.
That means Friday shall be a half-day. It is the first nation in the world to have 4.5 working days in a week.?
Friday used to be a full holiday, as is a tradition in Muslim countries as Friday is a holiday on the Islamic calendar.?
But all that is about to change.?
The new weekend is being implemented from January 1, 2022.?
As far as the economy is concerned, the new working week is set to better align the country with global markets, reflecting the country¡¯s strategic status on the global economic map.?
The new workweek was proposed by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources after comprehensive benchmarking and feasibility studies reflecting the potential impacts of the move on the economy.?
