UK has so far recorded more than 173,000 cases of the novel virus, with 3,605 deaths. The casualty list includes a 13-year-old, who is said to be the youngest to die of the disease in Britain.?
Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab,?died at King¡¯s College Hospital on Monday. He tested positive for coronavirus a day after he was admitted to hospital, on March 26.?He was buried yesterday?in the Eternal Gardens at Kemnal Park Cemetery?in Chislehurst, southeast London.?
Tragically, his mother and six siblings could not attend his funeral after a younger brother and older sister?began displaying symptoms of the virus.?
The coffin carrying the body of Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab was lowered into the ground by four people wearing protective clothing and masks at the ceremony.?Mourners who could attend all stood apart from each other as they observed social distancing guidelines.
Britain initially took a gradual approach to containing the virus compared with European countries such as Italy.
But Prime Minister?Boris Johnson?imposed stringent controls after projections showed a quarter of a million people could die. Johnson has since become the first leader of a major power to announce a positive test result for coronavirus.
Britain lags Italy, Spain and France in terms of the number of deaths, but they are still doubling around every 3.5 days.
