Broadcasting La Liga matches in India has always been challenging, and now football fans find themselves without access to Spain's top club games, unable to stream them on any platform. This follows Galaxy Racer's (GXR) acquisition of exclusive broadcasting rights for La Liga in the Indian subcontinent under a six-year deal spanning the 2024-25 to 2029-30 seasons.
However, just a few months into the contract, the partnership has encountered a setback which prompted La Liga to cut its signal to GXR. As a result, the main people to suffer were Indian fans who could no longer watch Real Madrid, Barcelona and more matches, sparking widespread frustration.?
While La Liga coverage was absent last week, Ligue 1 broadcasts were also off-air for two weeks. On Friday, GXR addressed the situation through its official @GXR_World account on X (formerly Twitter).?
They stated: "Hey GXR fans, unfortunately, due to technical issues, we won't be streaming LALIGA matches this weekend. We're working on resolving this as quickly as possible to bring you back the action you love! Thank you for your patience and support."?
While many fans on X have expressed their frustration, the root cause of the non-telecast of La Liga matches in India is reportedly a dispute between the league and the Dubai-based media company GXR over non-payment issues.?
Reports from SportBusiness indicate that financial disagreements was at the heart of the issue. Sources suggest that La Liga suspended its broadcast in India due to GXR's failure to meet its payment obligations. Discussions are said to be ongoing between GXR and the league in an attempt to resolve the matter.?
For now, Indian football fans remain as clueless as everyone and continue to question GXR on various social media platforms. Many re just?anxiously awaiting for a quick resolution as the prolonged broadcasting blackout seems to see no end.??
