Since the Champions Trophy 2025 began, Indian fans have been on the edge of their seats, eagerly hoping to see India lift another title. However, many fans haven't hidden their disappointment when their favorite players get out, often taking to social media to curse and troll the foreign cricketers responsible for those dismissals.
But what's caught everyone's attention is a bizarre trend ¡ª some fans, either intentionally or unintentionally, have been flocking to the Instagram accounts of people who share the same names as these cricketers.
During the final group stage match between India and New Zealand, Glenn Phillips took a spectacular catch to dismiss Virat Kohli. The gravity-defying, one-handed stunner left everyone ¡ª including the Indian batter ¡ª in shock. While the Kiwi cricketer earned applause, an entirely unrelated "Philips" found itself in the middle of an internet storm.
Instead of directing their frustration at Glenn Phillips, some furious Indian fans targeted the Instagram page of Philips ¡ª the electronics brand. It seems that in the heat of the moment, double-checking wasn't a priority. In fact, the brand came out and posted a cheeky response as well.
In an even more unexpected twist, some fans took things further by bombarding the Instagram page of the late cricketer Phillip Hughes, confusing him with Glenn Phillips due to the similar names.
The mix-up didn't stop there. Ahead of the much-anticipated India vs Australia semi-final, fans were already gearing up to vent their anger at Travis Head, who has been a dangerous for the Indian team. However, instead of him, they ended up directing their frustration at American rapper and singer-songwriter Travis Scott, simply because of the shared first name.
As of writing this article, the first semi-final is underway at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Australia, having played 42 overs, have scored 217 runs with six wickets down.
Cooper Connolly (0 off 9), Travis Head (39 off 33), Marnus Labuschagne (29 off 36), and Josh Inglis (11 off 12) have departed, while skipper Steven Smith got clean bowled for 73 off 96. Glenn Maxwell smashed a six and then departed for 7 off 5.
