India's triumphant win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, held in the West Indies and USA, marked the end of head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure with the national team. Soon after, Rajasthan Royals (RR) appointed him as their head coach for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. However, even before the start of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royals faced an unexpected setback.?
As RR geared up for a fresh start in IPL 2025, their plans hit a roadblock when head coach Rahul Dravid suffered a leg injury during the team's preparatory camp in Jaipur on Tuesday. The franchise shared the update on their social media platforms.
In a photo posted by RR, Dravid is seen seated with a cast on his left leg, giving a thumbs-up. While there has been no official confirmation about the severity of the injury, it seems unlikely that Dravid will miss any matches as the team's head coach.
According to RR's X (formerly known as Twitter) page, they captioned the photo:"Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who picked up an injury while playing cricket in Bangalore, is recovering well and will join us today in Jaipur."
The Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), hold a special place in the tournament¡¯s history. Despite their stunning victory in the first season in 2008 under the late Shane Warne's captaincy, the Royals have struggled to reclaim the title.
Dravid¡¯s return to the RR setup is an emotional moment, as he reunites with the franchise after a decade. The "Wall" of Indian cricket played a crucial role during RR¡¯s early years, captaining the team when Sanju Samson made his IPL debut in 2013. He later served as the team¡¯s mentor for the next two seasons.
Now, in 2025, Sanju Samson will once again lead the side, with Dravid guiding him as both a mentor and coach. The Royals and their fans are hopeful that the Dravid-Samson partnership will finally end their title drought and bring the trophy back to Jaipur.
RR retained players list: Sanju Samson (Rs. 18 crore), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs. 18 crore), Riyan Parag (Rs. 14 crore), Dhruv Jurel (Rs. 14 crore), Shimron Hetmyer (Rs. 11 crore), Sandeep Sharma (Rs. 4 crore)
