The 3rd and final ODI between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad saw the visitors win the toss, opt to bowl, and claim an early wicket in the form of captain Rohit Sharma. The skipper, who smashed a century in the 2nd ODI, barely stayed at the crease in the final game, facing just two balls before departing for a single run, courtesy of Mark Wood's bowling and a sharp catch by wicketkeeper Philip Salt.
Rohit was caught on the crease with no option but to play at it, resulting in a thick outside edge behind. Philip Salt dived to his right and took a fine catch. With this dismissal, Rohit will have to wait to reach the milestone of 11,000 runs in ODIs.?
Fans were unhappy with his early dismissal and took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their disappointment while also sharing memes about the early wicket.?
One wrote, "Rohit Sharma's innings today lasted shorter than my New Year resolutions."
Another said, "One good knock, and Rohit Sharma is back to his original form."
A third joked, "Rohit Sharma got out when the team total was 6 runs¡ªas a tribute to India's 6-run win against Pakistan in the T20 CWC 2024 under his captaincy. Rohit knows what he is doing."
So far, 8 overs have been completed with India scoring 39 runs and losing only 1 wicket. Opener Shubman Gill is at the crease with Virat Kohli and fans will be hoping the latter regains his form before the Champions Trophy 2025.???
