In a time when cricket is the most celebrated sport in India, we often forget our triumphant achievements in hockey that overshadow our cricketing wins. 8 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the Olympics; 1975 World Cup win; and 3 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the Asian Games.
But this success didn't come overnight. Our first true moment of glory came in 1928, when we won our first Olympic gold. It kick-started an era of Indian domination of the international circuit for the next five decades. There might have been a drop in our performance levels in the last few years, but we are still among the top teams in the world.
