In the past eight months or so, MS Dhoni's future has been one of the most talked about subjects in India. The World Cup-winning captain hasn't retired and is still hopeful of making the T20 World Cup squad later this year.
While fans are eagerly waiting to see Dhoni back on the cricket field in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, former India captain Kapil Dev has said that IPL 2020 will not only be about Dhoni as there will be many youngsters playing in the tournament as well who can serve India for the next 10 years.??
Kapil Dev is of the view that as Dhoni has already done so much for the country, it is time for the cricket lovers to move forward and look towards the future.
"It's not just Dhoni who is playing the IPL. I am a person who looks for a young player who we can be proud of in the next 10 years. I think Dhoni has already done so much for the country," Kapil said during the fifth edition of HCL Grant event.
The 38-year-old Chennai Super Kings captain, who led India to two world titles, has not played since the World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand last year and has maintained a stoic silence on what his next move would be.
Kapil Dev also said that Dhoni is in the last stretch of his career.?
"As his fan, yes (would like to see him playing the T20 World Cup) but as a cricketer I think it all depends on the management. He hasn't played for one year. He should play more matches to be in the team. There shouldn't be different parameters for different players," the 1983 World Cup winning skipper said.
"He is on his last leg. I am his fan so I would love to see him but in IPL I am looking for the next generation."
The upcoming season is going to be a massive platform for Dhoni to prove that he still has a lot left in the tank. If he can pull off one more good season under his belt, Dhoni will certainly be in the scheme of things for the?ICC T20I World Cup 2020.
