Former UFC double champion Daniel Cormier has expressed his reservations over the proposed boxing exhibition match in India between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul. The 45-year-old, regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of his generation, said that in the three years McGregor has been away from the octagon, he has made several claims that were never fulfilled.
"Conor McGregor has told us a lot of things over the last three years. None of them have come to fruition. I¡¯m gonna have to see it to believe it," he told MMA Junkie.
Cormier, who currently serves as a UFC commentator, is the only MMA fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship after McGregor to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously and is the first fighter to have title defences in two divisions.
Cormier, however, expressed confidence that McGregor would eventually make his way back into the UFC ring.
"I think he's going to fight in the octagon. I think he has to, though. I think he has ¨C for Conor McGregor to ¨C he's got to rinse some of the stench off of him from everything that's happened outside of the octagon. Where he made his home is inside of that cage and I think that at some point, he's going to have to get back there," he said.
McGregor was last seen in a UFC ring in July 2021, and there has been intense speculation about his possible return in 2025. This has now been overshadowed by his announcement to fight Logan Paul in India.
