Watching ostriches run on the plains of Africa is something that we would not consider strange. Well, it's expected right? But what if you saw them racing on a track in Minnesota, USA? Yes, that would get your attention!
Why do I bring this up? Because it really happened. No, not a joke, far from it. Back in 2017, they had the Mark my Bird contest where ostriches raced each other with people on their backs.
Over 13,000 people came to watch the event. It was one of many interesting things going on that day at the Canterbury Park, but it stood out.
Justine Klaiber ended up winning the contest. It is no easy task, mind you, to keep balance on a bird that can increase speed without any effort.?
It was fun and it really did happen. Those present certainly enjoyed it.
