After enjoying a fruitful career on the cricket pitch, VVS Laxman has seamlessly taken to commentary. He is one of the most prominent figures in the commentary box these days.
While he is well versed in English, Laxman understood the importance of Hindi to Indian viewers very early. As a result, he improved his Hindi in order to have a more clear connect with the cricket viewers across the country.?
But how exactly did Laxman improve on that? He has taken to tuition classes with his kids. Yeah, really.?
"It's still a work in progress. I am working hard to get better (at Hindi commentary). I learned that throughout my playing days. Whatever you do, should become your passion. Now commentary has become my passion. I am lucky to be involved with the game. I thank Star Sports for giving me the opportunity. I had an interaction with Sanjog of Star Sports. He mentioned to me how important the Hindi language is for the viewers. That did not come naturally to me,"? Laxman told on the latest episode of India Today Inspiration'.
"So I really worked hard. People will be surprised... but I have actually taken tuition. So my kids were going to this Hindi teacher, along with them I went to the same Hindi teacher to learn. It's still a work in progress," he added.?
Well, that is one way of improving your skills. That also tells you how hardworking Laxman is. During his playing days, he would grind to better his game and he has carried that into the post-retirement commentary stint.
The former Indian batsman also went on to talk about his ability to adapt to different batting positions during his playing days.?
"One thing, again, I am very proud of is like in my career... opening did not come naturally to me, it was out of my comfort zone, I took it up as a challenge. I tried my best. No. 6 did not come naturally to me. My game did not suit to succeed at No. 6 and I took it up as a challenge. I am very happy that I succeeded as a No. 6 batsman.??
A great playing career and now an ever present face in the commentary box, VVS Laxman is loving his association with cricket.?
