As 2016 draws to a close, it¡¯s time to look back and recount some of the most epic tech boo-boos that graced us this year. Take a seat, grab some popcorn, and let the slow clapping begin¡
These are the epic faceplate moments of 2016
Facebook wanted to usher in a free internet era in India, through its Free Basics initiative last year. But once it emerged that they were trying to play the gatekeepers of the internet, all hell broke loose.
Free Basics faced stiff resistance from the youth of the nation
After a lot of campaigning against the move and subsequent uproar, Facebook¡¯s Free Basics initiative invited TRAI¡¯s ire and subsequent ban earlier this year, because it found Facebook guilty of violating Net Neutrality norms. Good riddance! Hopefully, Facebook¡¯s Express Wi-Fi doesn¡¯t meet the same fate.
This was either a dream turning into a nightmare or one of the most memorable cons pulled off in recent memory.
The Sanskari Phone. FAILED BIG TIME!
Ringing Bells, a startup, announced itself on the national stage by planning to sell Android smartphones priced at just Rs 251. Too good to be true, right?!
What can we say here? The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was going to gatecrash the Apple iPhone 7 Plus¡¯ party, and if everything had gone according to plan we would be writing about how Galaxy Note 7 was one of the biggest hits of the year. Only it ended up being a hit. But for all the wrong reasons.
Things that make you go BOOM!
Not only did the Samsung Galaxy Note 7¡¯s battery start exploding, but replacement units also ended up going kaboom. Not one, not two, but lots of them. All around the world. So Samsung shut production of the Galaxy Note 7. RIP!
In its quest to be futuristic and dictate terms to the tech market, Apple completely removed the 3.5mm audio jack from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus released this year.
Wait, what happened now? Why U do dis Apple iPhone 7?!
As a result, a lot of earphone owners¡¯ combined panic instantly sent shockwaves around the world. No one¡¯s any wiser as to why Apple did what it did, and as is the scenario with all things Apple, the tech industry is split into two camps - heavily deliberating whether the Banishment of the Earphone Jack is a good move or not!
Another epic boo-boo that Apple committed was to launch an underwhelming MacBook Pro to eager customers, patiently saving money for an upgrade for four years now.
Is this a MacBook Air or new MacBook Pro? See what we mean?
Not only were Apple fans disappointed with the hipster OLED touch strip the new MacBook Pro sports, but the specs of the US $2000 MacBook Pro were trolled for anything but for professionals.
Social media titans had a year to forget. First, Facebook¡¯s Mark Zuckerberg, and later Twitter¡¯s Jack Dorsey, were left red-faced by none other than their very own social networks. No kidding!
Twitter and Facebook CEO were embarrassed by their own social networks. LOL!
Mark Zuckerberg¡¯s posts on fake news on Facebook were accidentally removed by Facebook - how epic a fail is that one? Hold on, before you make up your mind, let us also tell you that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was locked out of his very own Twitter account by a massive snafu. Hilarious, just too hilarious!
How could we not have mentioned this! Obviously, this takes not only the cake but the proverbial cherry on top, as far as the year¡¯s most epic tech fails are concerned.
Here we have Rahul Gandhi explaining to us the importance of added security on Twitter
Granted, poor Rahul Gandhi could do very little to protect himself, but his Twitter account was unceremoniously hacked and not-so-PG-13 posts trolling the Gandhi family and Congress party went viral, to say the least. Hacker group Legion were to blame for the epic tech fail.
