Making small tweaks to your device settings can make your connectivity experience better. If you've been wondering how to make your Wi-Fi connection faster, you can simply change your router settings for an improved experience.
Usually, even with a good internet speed, Wi-Fi connections can suffer owing to the number of devices they might be connected to. One adjustment to your router can grant preferential treatment to one or multiple devices.
This setting is called "quality of service" or QoS and is designed to help users prioritise internet bandwidth for the devices of their choice. Tech expert Kim Komando recently explained to the Daily Mail how QoS may be allocated. "If you¡¯d like to prioritize your smart TV for all your favorite shows, it¡¯ll claim internet speed dibs before a Windows update takes over," Komando says.
Doing this will not jeopardise the Windows update but will just slow it down, along with other devices who were not designated this "VIP treatment."
Komando states that better routers have more options to utilise QoS that can improve speeds. However, the feature isn't a fix-for-all. You still need good internet speed in order to make the most out of the Quality of Service feature. "Think of QoS as an extra layer of optimization," Komando wrote.
There are various ways to access QoS settings on various routers like TP-Link and Neatgear.
On TP-Link routers, follow the steps below:
On Netgear routers, follow the steps below:
