Phones running on both Android 9.0 Pie and Android 10 seem to be affected with this bug Oddly enough, WhatsApp hasn't really rolled out a fix for this major bug. Neither have they issued an official statement.?

You can become a beta user of WhatsApp by going on the link here and signing in using your Gmail account. Once signed in, just update the app and you're good to go. With Beta mode, you can also get hands-on the newest features WhatsApp is working on without worrying about your battery dying out.?
If you find switching to beta mode a little too technical, you can just look into the 'Battery Optimisation' option in your Android phone. Here you should find apps that are running in the background. Find WhatsApp and disable running in the background. This way you might have to manually enter WhatsApp to check for messages, but at least your battery life will remain intact.?
