Apple has shipped at least a million iPhones that were "Made in India" in the first quarter of 2022, a new report states.?
The first India-made iPhones were manufactured in 2017. And now, the share of "Made in India" iPhones in "the overall iPhone portfolio increased 50% year-on-year," Prabhu Ram from CyberMedia, a research firm behind the analysis, told Gadgets 360.
Apple recently announced plans to produce iPhone 13 models locally after expanding production capabilities?to iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE (2020).
The Cupertino-based company also witnessed considerable growth in 2021, noting a 196% year-on-year production increase in India, an unrelated analysis by Counterpoint claims. The same assessment noted that about 77% of all iPhone models shipped in India in 2021 were manufactured locally.
CyberMedia's research also proclaims iPhone 12 as the best-selling iPhone model in India in the first quarter of 2022 - with a share of 52%, followed by iPhone 13 at 20%, iPhone 11 at 18%,?iPhone SE (2020) at 4%, and iPhone 13 Pro at 2%.?

In the first quarter of 2022, Apple's iPhones witnessed a 22% year-on-year growth. Besides this, the firm predicts that iPhones would amass a share of 5.2% in 2022. Currently, it has a share of 3.2%.?Apple's iPad line-up also experienced 31% year-on-year growth in Q1 2021.
The company also ships Made-in-India iPhone models overseas. By manufacturing devices in India, Apple was able to bring down the shipments of imported iPhones, for which Apple paid custom duties and taxes.
