Is Apple going to embrace USB Type-C ports for iPhones soon? According to a trusted Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is ditching its Lighting Port for USB-C in 2023.
Ming-Chi Kuo on Wednesday Tweeted that iPhones could sport a USB-C port in 2023. This means that iPhone 15 series could become the first iPhone series to embrace USB-C.
?Kuo's prediction for iPhone's potential switch is based on a supply chain survey. According to him, switching to USB-C could help reach better transfer and charging speeds for iPhone hardware designs.
Apple is facing pressure from regulators to ditch its Lightning Port and switch to the more widely used and faster USB-C. EU's regulator could even force the iPhone maker to switch to USB Type-C on all its devices except those too small for a Type-C.
This wouldn't be a shock. For starters, Apple has somewhat embraced the USB-C port, packing its MacBooks and iPads with the port. If iPhones were to get a USB-C port, it might effectively kill the Lightning Port.

Just last month, the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of legislation that would require Apple to switch to USB Type-C ports for all of its devices.
This move would affect all consumer electronics companies that sell devices in Europe. All phones, tablets, laptops, digital cameras, headphones, video game consoles, and portables speakers would mandatorily require to have a USB Type-C port. Only smart watches and health trackers could be allowed to sport different ports.

Most Android devices made the switch a few years ago, embracing USB Type-C for its faster data transfer and charging speeds. Apple has said that forcing a Type-C port on its devices would be counterproductive and could stifle innovation.
