If you view Apple's iPhone notch that has now evolved into what the company calls a Dynamic Island as an aesthetic nightmare, looks like change is imminent. Apple is reportedly testing a punch hole front camera display for iPhone 16 Pro to replace the Dynamic Island that was introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro models and is also found across the iPhone 15 series.
Even though the punch hole display is being tested on the iPhone 16 Pro model, it could only appear as soon as the iPhone 17 series. As is now standard, Apple is expected to release four iPhones in 2024 - iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

According to tipster Majin Bu, the punch hole front camera design is being tested on the iPhone 16 Pro model. Bu also shared an image render of how the punch hole camera could look on the iPhone 16 Pro variant.
Honestly, anything could happen - Apple could introduce a punch hole display on the iPhone 16 Pro model and then extend it to iPhone 17 models a year later like it did with Dynamic Island, or the design could straight away be seen on the iPhone 17 models.
Apple's Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped cutout on top of the iPhone display that holds the front camera. The 'island' is designed to be interactive and can display notifications like incoming calls, music controls, etc. Users can tap on these notifications to interact with them.

It's also entirely possible that we might never see a punch hole display on an iPhone, considering the fact that not all features in development make their way to the final product. As always, Apple has not confirmed anything, and probably will not, until after the launch of the device.
