Selfies have become more popular than we could ever imagine. From seeing our parents click selfies to even Prime Minister Modi, the selfie-fever is growing stronger than ever.?
And now, it looks like this selfie fever has trickled down from humans to even the octopus.
Reported first by CNET, an octopus managed to capture his selfie and in fact won awards for it. The image was captured on a camera owned by Gaetano Dario Gargiulo. The camera was placed in a shallow part of a tide pool in Kamay Botany Bay National Park in New South Wales, Australia when the octopus came out of his den and randomly started shooting pictures. He witnessed this rare sight with his three-year-old son photobombing the tentacle selfie.?
He said, "I placed my camera near its den and the octopus started interacting with it. It came completely out of the den and to our amazement it started shooting pictures!" The images shot on a wide-angle camera showcase the tentacles of the creature in all its glory forming a beautiful circular pattern, that looks like something truly out of ordinary.?
Gargiulo was surprised with the outcome of the image and decided to participate in a photography contest dubbed Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition organised by the Underwater Photo Guide.?
Even though the novel coronavirus was still spreading like wildfire, the competition allowed photographers from 80 nations to submit thousands of images. And GarguiloĄŻs submission got him not one, but two awards -- the Best of Show award and first place in the ĄŽWide-AngleĄŻ category.
While this was a much-deserved victory, Underwater Photography Guide publisher Scott Gietler mockingly said that the octopus should get a share of the prize, "My only concern is that the octopus should get its share of the prize, as it did assist in taking the shot," he said.?
