We have about three years before all workplace deliberations migrate to the metaverse, or at least according to Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
In his famous "Year in Review" collection of reflections, Bill Gates predicted that "within the next two or three years... most virtual meetings will move from 2D camera image grids... to the metaverse, a 3D space with digital avatars."
Goodbye physical office spaces? At least Gates thinks so. Instead of physically meeting in office spaces, Gates predicted that our digital avatars would get the job done. Using motion capture and spatial audio technology, the metaverse intends to blur the lines between the physical and digital, defining a new world.
Just last month, Microsoft announced plans to launch Mesh, a virtual platform for teams to collaborate in a 3D space using customised avatars, akin to what Gates is predicting for humanity.
