Delhi government had earlier announced its plans to incorporate a total of 1000 electric buses in the city¡¯s transportation network. An effort towards curbing the air pollution in the capital region, the government has now floated global tenders for 375 electric buses out of these under two clusters.?
The move comes as the first phase of the transition towards electric vehicles for the public transportation in the city. The decision to bring in 1000 low-floor electric buses was announced last month, with plans to roll-out the e-buses in a phased manner starting June-July 2019.?

The e-buses form a part of a major overhaul of the city¡¯s transportation means planned by the Delhi government. For this, the government allocated a total of Rs 100 crore fund to the State Electric Vehicle Fund in? in the Budget for 2019 to 2020. The goal is to have 25 per cent share of Battery Electric Vehicles in new registered vehicles by 2024.?
State transport minister Kailash Gahlot took to Twitter to announce the release of tenders for the e-buses. As per his tweet, the cost of the RFQP document is Rs 75,000 (plus CST@18%). The pre bid meeting will be held on March 22, 2019.?
The move comes right after the centre has announced the second phase of its FAME scheme, wherein it is offering subsidies to the EV makers in the country as well as incentives to the buyers to propel the transition towards electric vehicles in the country.
