COVID-19 cases around the world are nowhere close to stopping. Today, the novel coronavirus has infected over 8 lakh people and claimed the lives of over 40,000.
The rising number of cases is also putting a ton of pressure on the medical staff who are working tirelessly, taking care of the patients while trying their best to contain this mayhem.
Amidst all this, medical practitioners around the world are experiencing an immense shortage of basic protective gear that is supposed to keep them safe while they¡¯re heading to the battlefield every day.?
Many doctors are either forced to reuse protective gear (which they¡¯re not supposed to) or aren¡¯t getting out of it, to maintain the diminishing stocks. This is causing a ton of discomfort to the people in the medical community, something that Saurabh Gupta, an entrepreneur from Mumbai experienced too.
In a recent LinkedIn post, he shared the experience of his father, who is a doctor and is facing a shortage in necessary safety equipment. He said in the post, ¡°The doctors were really demotivated and scared because of the risky and dangerous environment they were being exposed to.¡±
However, he decided to do something about it. They set up a small makeshift facility, sourced materials, set up along with a team and started manufacturing protective suits for doctors. They got the samples ready in just 12 hours and got approval from local authorities a few hours later.
He said in the post, ¡°Surprisingly, the cost of the kit came out to be 1/10th of the commercial kit available in the market. We would now be producing 100+ kits daily and distributing it to healthcare workers and Police department of our town.
He further added, ¡°Being the son of a doctor, this is the least I could do for the doctors and others who are fighting for us, out in the battlefield to ensure that we stay safe and healthy.¡±
